Anyway we were on the water by 8 AM and heading down Ocean View beach. I thought they would be taking a direct route. When we spotted the tall ships it turned out that they were coming into the shipping channel. Even though they had their sails up they were booking. I think they must have been power sailing. Anyway, I had the angle back to Hampton Harbor and revved up the motor and headed for the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel opening. I had wanted to catch the on the open water but I just had too much distance to cover. But I did beat them to the harbor in time to see the Godspeed exchange cannon salutes with Fort Monroe.
The Godspeed before entering the harbor.
Entering the harbor - just in front of Fort Monroe.
There were four ships - the Godspeed, Susan Constant, the Discovery and the shallop. I know that the Godspeed was the ship pictured earlier because I heard the Hampton docks warn boaters to stand clear until she completed docking. This must be the Discovery heading back to Jamestown (the smaller of the three ships that made the voyage).
This must be the Susan Constant (middle sized ship) heading back to Jamestown.
The John Smith Shallop approaching Hampton.
Looking back at the Chuckatuck bridge.
A real mega-yacht. I couldn't resist taking a picture of this.
